The City Planning Commission will be reviewing major zoning changes that will have large ramifications on the quality of life for East San Carlos Residents this coming Monday Evening at City Hall Council Chambers. It is EXTREMELY important that residents show up for this meeting. The city and planning commission have rezoned Old County Road, East San Carlos Avenue, and the entire perimeter of our community for a variety of different uses from heavy to light industrial uses, giant hotels, commercial buildings, multi-use residential buildings and combined multi-use residential and commercial purposes all of which can be as high as 50 feet with 70 foot high areas for architectural embellishments. Imagine 50 foot tall buildings like the proposed Transit Village surrounding the entire perimeter of our community with “architectural embellishments” allowed to go 20 feet higher than that. This is even higher than the 65 foot high In and Out sign that the city already ok’d.
What does this mean? We could have liquor stores or 7/11’s, retail chains, hotels, schools, day care centers, animal care directly abutting peoples back yards on East San Carlos in between McCue and Montgomery Street!! They would allow four story 50 foot high buildings right next to single story residential houses with only a 20 foot setback.
It is likely that these new rules will make it easier for the city to bypass the EIR issues that have been raised regarding the massive 8 building Apartment Complex that the GESC Association calls “The Anti-Transit Village” because it so negatively impacts Caltrain access and parking for current residents.
Please review these documents below (they are links to PDF files) in detail and ask all of your friends and neighbors to do the same. Please show up to the Planning Commission meeting this Monday August 1st at 7PM at City Hall Council Chambers.
