The city is holding an important meeting Tuesday March 20th at 7PM in the San Carlos Library Conference Room at 610 Elm Street.

The city will be presenting a presentation from their consultant on cut through traffic for the neighborhood South of Holly Street.  This study does NOT include all of the streets South of Holly omitting McCue and Bayport and is not building or referring to the previous study on traffic done in 2014 that did take those streets into account.  We have asked the city to review and compare that previous report to the report they just commissioned as well as take take into consideration cut through traffic that occurs during non-rush hour times and to study cut through traffic via bayport when Old County Road and Industrial get backed up.  The city is claiming that the observed ADT is “well within the City’s approved NTMP traffic volume range for the local roadway functional classification.”  The local roadway functional classification by the Federal Highway Administration states that Average Daily traffic is considered normal between 80 – 700 vehicles per day and our streets are at the very upper limit of that, however the city has set an ADT of 1200 vehicles per day for local residential streets.  The city’s response that we are well within the range when the range is only because they have set the bar for traffic to an unreasonably high limit.  Any resident with children or who has crossed our streets knows that traffic cutting through the community is at very high levels and the safety and enjoyment of our neighborhood is at serious risk because of these inflated ADT levels.

The city will also be discussing Holly street options and pedestrian safety.  Holly street residents have been organizing and preparing their preferred options for the street.

This is a very important meeting for community residents to attend, listen to the findings and comment on what we really are experiencing regarding traffic cutting through the neighborhood via side streets as well as the lane configuration on Holly Street.
